San Diego, CA (August 15, 2005) – The Institute of Business Travel Management (IBTM), the education and research foundation of the National Business Travel Association (NBTA), awarded $90,000 in scholarships during a general session at NBTA’s 37th Annual Convention and Trade Show in San Diego. To date, IBTM has awarded nearly 250 scholarships, totaling $900,000, to NBTA members.
“IBTM is extremely pleased to award so many scholarships this year,” said Joe Monaghan, Chair, IBTM Board of Trustees.
In continuing its mission of providing unparalleled educational opportunities for business travel professionals, IBTM’s scholarships award individuals with grants to participate in the Certified Corporate Travel Executive program (CCTE), the Global Leadership Program at The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania (GLP) and the Independent Studies Program (ISP). IBTM also awards the Mike Kabo Scholarship to one corporate travel manager each year.
IBTM awarded a total of 13 CCTE scholarships to NBTA members in a ceremony during the Convention, each of which is given in the name of one of IBTM’s founding donors. These $2,000 grants can be used towards core weeks or elective courses over a two-year period. The CCTE program, offered by NBTA, is the recognized professional certification program in the business travel industry.
A total of 10 scholarships were awarded to NBTA members for the five-day GLP session, each given in the name of an IBTM leadership donor. These classes are held each year at The Wharton School in Philadelphia. These grants provide recipients with full tuition, room and board, and reading materials for the program.
In addition, IBTM awarded 24 GLP scholarships for its two-day program. These sessions are offered at various locations around the country and include tuition, materials and some meals.
The ISP scholarship was created to increase opportunities for travel professionals who seek educational offerings from other accredited institutions or organizations outside of NBTA and IBTM sponsored courses. This year IBTM awarded one $5,000 ISP grant.
Lastly, the Mike Kabo Global scholarship, which was created to honor one of the industry’s leaders, provides one corporate travel manager with free convention registration and the opportunity to attend the two-day GLP session at NBTA’s convention. This scholarship is given each year to one direct member residing outside of the United States.
The Institute of Business Travel Management (IBTM) is the education and research foundation of the National Business Travel Association (NBTA). IBTM was established in 1997 to support NBTA’s 2,400 members and the industry as a whole. As the only education and research foundation in the business travel industry, IBTM seeks to fund initiatives to advance the business travel profession. IBTM has created the only master’s level accredited course for the corporate travel professional, the Global Leadership Program, in partnership with The Wharton School. IBTM is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
