San Diego, CA (August 16, 2005) -- The Institute of Business Travel Management (IBTM), the education and research foundation of the National Business Travel Association (NBTA), awarded 23 business travel professionals with the Certificate of Professional Development from University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business for their completion of the Global Leadership Program (GLP).  The certificates were awarded during a ceremony at NBTA’s 37th Annual Convention and Trade Show in San Diego.

“IBTM is extremely pleased to have so many individuals complete the Global Leadership Program this year, and we congratulate them on this achievement,” said Joe Monaghan, Chair, IBTM Board of Trustees.

In 2001, IBTM began a partnership with the world-renowned Wharton School to provide travel professionals with the GLP, the industry’s only master’s-level program.  In order to receive the certificate, participants must successfully complete one five-day session and three two-day sessions within a 24-month period while completing at least one session in three of the four main competencies: leadership, management, finance and marketing.

The program offers professionals the ability to practice creative leadership techniques as well as develop excellent decision-making skills using an interdisciplinary approach that addresses both the opportunities and challenges of conducting business in today’s turbulent environment.  Courses are designed to take industry leaders from both the buyer and supplier communities out of the business travel field to broaden their thinking and provide them with ways to create value for corporations and customers.
