Philadelphia (February 6, 2006) -- The NBTA Foundation, the research and education affiliate of the National Business Travel Association (NBTA), this week in Philadelphia hosts the first session of the Global Leadership Program (GLP) of the year -- Essentials of Management: Mastering Core Business Concepts.  Thirty-one corporate and government travel managers and suppliers are expected to participate in this five-day session.  GLP, the business travel industry’s only master’s-level course, is offered through a partnership between the NBTA Foundation and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.

Debbie Welder, travel manager for CHG Healthcare Services, Inc., commented, “I enrolled in the Global Leadership Program to strengthen my strategic leadership skills.  As my company grows, I want to be able to offer an educated and well executed five-year plan.  By attending the GLP, with help from my NBTA Foundation scholarship, I have been fortunate enough to learn from highly respected educators and travel industry leaders.  The courses have allowed me to focus on my strengths and abilities as a leader and how to apply those strengths.  I feel that I have learned more from the GLP than I learned in four years of college.”

Courses provided as part of the GLP build upon the concepts of NBTA’s Certified Corporate Travel Executive (CCTE), the industry’s sole certification program, to further educate travel managers and suppliers on business theories and assist them in operating in an increasingly global market.  This week’s GLP program is designed to help high-level executives in the managed travel industry develop knowledge pertaining to the core areas of business, understand how operational and financial decisions impact strategic and marketing efforts, and learn how to approach different managerial challenges.

Upcoming GLP sessions include:

April 30 – May 2 – Communication Strategies for Leadership and Crisis Management – Philadelphia
July 15-16 – Marketing Metrics: Linking Marketing to Financial Consequences – Chicago
September 17-19 – Stepping Up as a Leader –  Los Angeles
November 12-14 – Profitable Development: Driving Growth, Creating Value - New Orleans

NBTA and its foundation offer three levels of professional development opportunities to its members: the Fundamentals of Business Travel Management/CTE program, the CCTE program and the GLP.  For more information on these and other offerings from the leading provider of corporate travel education, see www.nbta.org/education.

The NBTA Foundation, formerly the Institute of Business Travel Management (IBTM), is the education and research foundation of the National Business Travel Association (NBTA).
