Alexandria, VA (November 7, 2006) - The NBTA Foundation, the education and research foundation of the National Business Travel Association (NBTA), today provided NBTA members a report that allows individual travel managers to compare their compensation levels and benefits to those of their peers.  "As the only research and education foundation in the corporate travel industry, the NBTA Foundation is pleased to provide the Travel Management Compensation and Benefits Survey, so that corporate travel professionals can benchmark their job responsibilities and compensation levels," said NBTA Foundation Chair Ellen Keszler.  "We are particularly pleased that we could accelerate our timetable for the report in order to get it into NBTA members’ hands before year-end, in advance of the annual performance review period.”

The NBTA Foundation 2006 Travel Management Compensation and Benefits Survey focuses on three primary areas: responsibilities, compensation and employee benefits. The report, based on 232 survey responses received August through November, 2006, provides compensation data relative to various criteria, such as job level, geography, company sales and experience. The study also compares retirement plans, stock options, incentives and bonuses, annual leave, professional training and more.

Some key findings of the report are as follows:

  • Average total compensation of respondents, including salary, bonus and commission, is $88,145, representing and increase of 2.2. percent from last year.
  • The two most common job titles of respondents to the survey are Manager (64.7%) and Director (12.1%).
  • There was a jump in the number of respondents with the job title Vice President from 4.0 percent in 2005 to 6.0 percent in 2006.  There was a decline of those with the title Coordinator or Specialist from 14.1 percent in 2005 to 10.8 percent in 2006.
  • The average respondent has 13.3 years of travel management experience and 6.2 year in her/his current position.
  • More than one quarter (26.7%) of respondents holds a Certified Corporate Travel Executive (CCTE) designation.
  • Nearly four fifths of respondents (79.1%) are female.

The report is available to NBTA members at www.nbtafoundation.org/research.  Members of the media can obtain a complimentary copy by contacting Caleb Tiller at 703-684-0836, ext. 138.
